Rick Halliwell
is the latest addition to
STAX of SOUL
brass section.
Rick is one of
Manchester's finest all round, professional sax players and has certainly found the flavour necessary for interpreting the superb, authentic, great sounding sax solos of yesteryear.
A musician since the age of six, Rick discovered Big Band music at the age of fourteen.
Remaining a serious amateur for many years, Rick played the length and breadth of the country performing casual gigs, working in shows and doing many TV/Radio sessions. Rick has also been
involved in fifteen Big Band/Jazz orchestra album recordings and has also worked with many UK and visiting US jazz artists such as Georgie Fame, Helen Shapiro, Marion Montgomery, Maynard Ferguson, Jiggs Whigham and many others.
Rick turned professional on 1st January 2000 and recently summed up his
enthusiasm for
STAX of SOUL with the
following statement... "Having come from a predominantly Big Band background, as a professional I'd been looking forward to broadening my experience of jazz, pop, and the classical repertoire... that was until I met
STAX of SOUL. The more I get to know this band, the more I feel proud to be a part of it".
As well as being 100% committed to
STAX of SOUL Rick also teaches sax, plays occasional Big Band jazz gigs in
and around the North West and also does recording sessions for the BBC and commercial radio.
